LS1 used cam for $20... is used ok?

I found a place that sells the LS1 cams for $20, and they say they are all take-outs with no mileage history... the pic shows a little wear...

I just want to know if it's ok to buy one, before I got thru all the pain of putting it in.

Also, do I have to change anything to use this cam?

And, I have the factory hot cam for 1988*, with the 305 TPI and the 5 speed (redline @ 5500), is this LS1 cam worth putting in?

You'll have to change engines before you can put that in. The ls1 cam is totally different than a traditional SBC cam.....

that theres a no go....

Exactly... you can use a LT1 cam though. Roller cams don't really wear that much cause of the rollers. used rollers cams are as good as new for the most part

I thought I had heard of people putting them in their TPI engines for some more kick... must have been the LT1 cam...

Well, is the LT1 cam worth putting in?

yeah its the LT1 cam they are putting in. the LS1 cam is setup totally differnent than standard SBC cams, as is the whole motor for that point.

mainly being that instead of having the two middle cylinders siamesed like all other SBC cars... the LS1 is like the big block and they are all equidistant from each other basically.

do a search on the LT1 cam swaps. ton have people have done it and sure there are #s out there for them...

I've got slightly better than an LT1 cam in my car, and to do a cam swap to put that in wouldn't be worth saving the money when you can get a better cam, especially since you've got a five speed. That's my opinion today. Cams aren't that expensive for what you get out of them.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a cam? I need a hydraulic roller right? I can't seem to find one that fits my needs... which are:

Daily driver
Race occasionally
Tons of mods, but nothing internal... yet.. or maybe not, depends how long the body holds up
