Bad bearings in engine accessories>>>help!
Hey guys long time no post! Well, the IROC just got completely new brakes all around and stops on a dime (except for icy areas of course). Now I have bad bearings in the air pump, compressor, and tensioner. If one of these freezes up, needless to say I'm screwed. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement compressor and air pump cheaply? I don't want to spend $300 just for bearings here...I already planned on doing the tensioner soon so I'm not too worried about that.
Also, the ROC needs some valve seals and burns nearly a quart of 15w-50 synthetic every 1000-1500 miles (less in the cold for some reason) - how long can I let valve seals go?? Well, I love the new site and thanks in advance for any help...

U ROCK,
If you have some time and tools, replacement bearings for the A.I.R. pump should be about $15.00 from your local industrial supplier. As I recall, there was a 204 in the front end an a 203 at the rear, both double-shielded. Ed's suggestion is pretty good, too. For probably $20.00 you can have an entire used pump.
The same hold true for the tensioner. The AC compressor, however, is a different story. Since the system has to be evacutated to replace bearings and seals in the compressor, it might be better left to a shop equipped for the work. If the failed bearing is in the clutch hub, you can replace the clutch without removing the compressor, but specialized tools are still required.

You really shouldn't let your seals leak for to long. All the oil that leaks down cokes on the backs of your valves and restricts airflow, besides they are easy to replace
