383 tpi

you fellas with 383 tpi's. what are you getting for hp/torque, and how much was it to do the rebuild? what kind of parts did you use?? trying to decide if i will go with tpi or maybe a holley thottle body inj. want to get 450 hp, 500ft-lb, but i want to be able to drive it more than once or twice a week. just wondering what you guys were getting with 383 tpi. infomation would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

i'd go for the holley commander 950 injection system. have you looked at it on their page? it flows like gangbusters, im sure a tpi could be modified to flow this much(1000cfm) but i imagine after its all said and done it'd be about the same price, but then again, im going nuts thinking about getting the holley system for my car(few months away). i know a guy around town that has either an edelbrock or holley tb system, and he said he can adjust the flow somehow btw 700 and around 1100 cfm. he's got it down arond 750 right now(on top a 355) and he can absolutely make his tires wail.

Axle/Gears: 12-Bolt 3.73
The Car Craft 91 Z28 with a 383 and SuperRam had 500 HP and 600 TQ at the rear wheels. I forget if that was with the nitrous too, or just the blower. Check out the December Car Craft, its in there.

Axle/Gears: 2 much 4 street not enough for strip
I've not had mine to a dyno yet, and I'm still running the stock chip. The car is capable of mid 12's right now, with sticky tires. It has gobs of torque off the line, but upper rpm horsepower could probably be better. Butt meter says probably about 350 - 385 hp and probably in the mid/upper 400s in torque, but won't know until I find a dyno locally to test it. The car runs away from new unmodified Corvettes, Ram Air TAs, and SS's easily.

Actually, IMO, I think TPI would be better used for truck engines just because it is capable of so much torque.
