Freon help

Hey I jsut installed a new compressor and accumulator. Not sure which valve to put the freon and oil into. The valve off of the accumulator or the valve on the pipe next to the accumulator. I have an 89 camarol.

The "yellow" hose will only fit on one of the lines, which will be the one on the accumulator. The other fitting will be to small.

You don't trust our experience? Go take it to some hole-in-the-wall shop so you can pay out the nose so they can screw it up for you.

While you're at it, since you replaced both the compressor and the accumulator, I'd retrofit the system to R-134a. It's a lot cheaper for the freon, and you can buy it off the shelf at the parts store.

If you replaced the compressor and accumulator, did you also flush it out? You prolly need a new orfice tube. The 134a conversion is also an excellent idea at this point. Make sure you also add the proper amount of oil to the componenets that you changed!

BTW.. GMTech...Some of those small shops are pretty good. I like to think the one I work at is, in fact we ocasionally fix stuff some of the local dealers have messed up! Factory training is awesome though, that's what I miss about working at the dealership!

yeah I did switch to r34a. The problem is that the kit sucks. I screwed it on as tight as it would go and it leaks. Then I realized that you have to have the AC on when you aer puttign the freon and oil in right? Well I got like 1.2 bottles of freon in and hardly any oil since teh leak. Am I doing this correctly?

You need to get the oil in there. If you run it without the oil, you'll "lunch" your new compressor. I'm not sure what sort of propellant if any is in the oil can, but you have to get the oil in the compressor.

Oh, those 134a conversion kits really do suck! I've gone through quite a few at the shop, and about half of the oil dispensers fail. I've saved a couple of the good ones and pour the oil out of the bad ones in to the good ones and get it in there that way. I am assuming that you're talking about the type that takes a socket to thread a screw in to push the oil out.

Next thing is that you should also add some oil to each component you replace. There is a standard amount, and I'd have to look it up since we haven't been doing A/C lately (it's just too damn cold here to worry about it!) I think the compressor takes 4 or 6 ounces, and each other component or line takes 2 ounces. Like I said, I'm not sure.

So, how does the compressor sound? Is it abnormally loud? If it is, quit using it until you can get some oil in it!
