Help...Timing Adjustment Procedure?
This topic was originally "Cold Start Injector", but I've got a new question. What is the procedure to set the timing on a '87 GTA, LB9 305 / 700R-4? I read on another site to jump the A&B terminals on the ALDL connector (diagnostic mode) to set the base timing. Now I have just read to disconnect the brown/black striped wire next to the heater box/fan housing. I'm afraid this may have been my problem all along.

The ALDL jumper procedure is used on older ECMs and some V-6 and I-4 engines to set base timing. Your TPI uses a bypass connector in the EST system to set base timing. There should be a VECI label under the hood describing the adjustment procedure, and it should look like this:
The bypass connector should be disconnected and the base timing set to the specification. Reconnect the bypass connector and you're set. The connector should be found here:
