oil on something hot makes smoke.. where does the smoke come from when you start it? probably oil leaking outa somewhere onto an exhaust manifold......

oooo sounds like you could use some valve cover gaskets, oils leaking out of your valve covers onto your exhaust manifolds.. easy enough to fix.. as for the exhaust at start up could be oil dripping down the manifolds into/onto the exhaust system or possible some bad valve seals

step 1 go to parts store and buy valve cover gaskets for your car.
step 2 remove valve covers ( im assuming u have centerbolts since its an 87) The drivers side is easy, nothing to move out of the way except a pcv valve IIRC, and on the pass side I think you have to remove the egr valve.. not sure havn't looked at a tpi setup in a while.. really its a fairly simple job you can defently do by yourself, if your removing the egr valve it might be a good idea to get a new gasket for it since the old one will probably break when you remove the valve... make sure you clean all the mating surfaces really well before reinstalling the valve covers and make sure you don't over torque em. good luck! maybe someone else who's more familiar with tpi could give ya some more advice..

If you have an 87 Z, then suggest you try to tighten the bolts in the center of the valve cover first...mine's an '89, I've had the original VC gaskets on it since new, had the VC's off a dozen times, and still have the original gaskets..no leaks either.
Tough (IMO) to make the CB VC gaskets leak, unless the VC bolts are loose.
If you do need to replace the gaskets, you'll see it's easy enough...only have to unplug the PCV on the driver side and breather on the pass side, unbolt the cvers, rand r the gaskets and reverse order the steps.
The smoke at starup is a bit more complicated to cure, and with your milage, probably not worth the hassle and time to fix to replace the seals, again, just my opinion.
Edit:
Sorry about the milage reference...I saw your "190-200" and took it as 190K - 200K miles for some reason.
If you feel you need to replace the stem seals, a search will yield you all you need to know.
