Mine just went ot last week. I took it out and welded the latch in the down position. Now I never have to worry about being stuck with a trunk that won;t close again

Oh it opens just fine...it's just the remote switch doesn't work. and it doesn;t do that gimpy "raise up and pull back down" thing anymore..it just latches in the down spot.

I KNOW THAT DAMN THING ALL TOO WELL. I LOOKED IN NEXTGENPARTS.COM, ANT A NEW PULL DOWN IS $400!!!!!!!! MINE ONLY WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO, AND THE SWITCH TO MAKE IT GO DOWN STICKS TOO.THEN IT WILL LATCH,BUT WONT GO DOWN! I THINK THAT YOU CAN FIND A DECENT ONE AT A SCRAP YARD IF YOU LOOK(I HAVENT YET,BUT THIS IS LOWER SLOWER MISSISSIPPI,EVERYTHING IS HARDER TO FIND DOWN HERE!)HOPE THIS HELPS!!

Mine broke about a year ago. The plastic housing mounting broke loose. I think it was about $150 for the housing itself. I think it was about $400 for the whole assembly. It wasn't hard to swap out and the pull down works fine now. The welding idea sounds good though, I never did understand the purpose of the pull down.

I believe the purpose of the pull down trunk, is so you dont have to slam the trunk hatch. Plus you dont put any pressure on the foam wing (it wont crack as much) so I have been told. Mine dont work either, I think its the relay, which runs about 40$ (Canadian funds).

The parts to repair the latch are available from GM for about $40. You probably need the housing and the plastic gear. Take it out and go to the local dealer. If they are not willing to help, let me know. I can get you the part numbers, but it will take me a couple of days.

Hey guys just in case you are interested I
just seen two or three of those hatch pull downs on Ebay, one was brand new and they went for about $60 TO $100, wouldn't hurt to check there once in a while
