boggin problems

what's up guys. I got a problem with my car bogging. It's not the stutter that you would get from a bad ignition wire. nothing like that. It's worse than that. right now a chevette could pull a better hole shot than i could. Whatever is wrong it made my exhaust system start glowing bright bright orange. muffler and everything was lit up. plus it smells like it's running rich. but after a while it start to smell like something else is burning. what is wrong with my car? there are no codes. I scanned and I got 12 which means nothing. HEEEEELLLLPPPP.

just a note:

I just replaced the TPS today because I was getting a code for that. But this problem was existant before the TPS. I thought it may have been the TPS because the TPS is supposed to tell the ECM what to set the injector rate at. I figured if it is letting the injectors stay open too long then that would cause the problem. y'know floodin it out. bottom line is it started boggin, i had a code for the TPS, I replaced the TPS and got nothin.

someone suggested the cat. I ran outside and disconnected the cat. still nothin.so we know it's not the TPS or the cat. maybe the IAC?

I really appreciate this guys cause I need my car for work. I use it for work and I need to find a remedy by Wed. Keep'em comin

Have you checked your fuel pressure?

no i haven't yet. I have to go buy a new one because the one I have is a vac./fuel combo gauge. only has a rubber hose. It's an old gauge but, it still works that's why I keep it around. works great for vac. tests. I gotta go get a new fuel pressure tester that will screw into my fittings.

another side note:
I should also mention that condition would happen every now and then. In other words, it started happening about one month after I installed the new motor. It happened once and didn't happen again for quite some time. It would bog out for just a few seconds and then clear up and the car was all *****. but, about a month ago i noticed it would start boggin on hot starts. cold starts it would fire up, and run fine but, if I shut it off and tried to start it again it would bog for a few seconds and then clear up. but, even this didn't happen all the time. sometimes I'd fire it up on a hot start and it would be fine. never threw out a code though.

I hope many people view this thread as I have figured out the problem and it is one of those problems that could really puzzle the crap out of someone.

In this case I opened my Air Filter housing and just for fun I took a look down my TBI while the engine was running and found to my amazement that one of my injectors has stopped flowing. It cut out all together. This would probably explain why it happened every now and then at first and then frequently on hot starts. injectors pulse rate depends on the temp of the engine so it was failing on lower pulse rates until it crapped out all together.

I will replace the injector tomorrow and post the results here for everyone

Keep the symptoms in mind in case this ever happens to you.

bog at start. clears up after awhile. every once in awhile.
starts bogging on hot starts.
starts bogging on every start.
critical loss of horsepower.
exhaust glows when revved at 3500-4000 rpm's for about 45 sec.

Thanx for all your help guys. I hope this fixes the problem. I poured a little fuel down the side that wasn't working and the engine revved up. When I opened the throttle and sprayed fuel at the same time, there was no more bogging.

Again thanx alot and I hope other members find this useful.

Glad you figured it out. I figured it was lean based on the glowing exhaust, not sure why it smelled rich though.

i was probably smelling fuel from the injector that was working and because the engine wouldn't fire right away, probably caused a little flooding on start up.

I have heard on the boards that an extremely lean condition can actually cause it to smell like its running rich. Just what I've heard.
