Do I have to use Self Align RR????

Hey guys I have vortec heads sitting in my shed that goes with my car when sold I have a guy who has 1.7 RR's but the 3/8 none selfalign can they be used with the vortec heads why or why not? my vortec heads have the .550lift springs 3/8 screwin studs for use with guideplates...

Yes you can use non-self-aligning rockers on those heads, if and only if you also use guide plates.

As far as lift limits and whether those rockers designed to fit some other engine move the push rod so far in toward the stud that they hit the inside of the hole, you're on your own.

If you have the guideplates then yes you can use non self aligning rockers...all they do is eliminate the need for guide plates.

The rr are for stnd small block chevys, there 1.7fully roller. It would bring my cam specs up to .496/.512. the springs on my head can head up to .550... so i think i should be fine, and i would be getting the rockers at a complete steal... i just need to pick up guide plates and heattreated chromemoly pushrods, not a big deal..

you will need the guideplates as mentioned above. you will probably also need to open up the hole in the head that the pushrod goes through since the angle of the push rod changes with the 1.7's it will probably hit the side of the hole.
