A/C Delete; whats involved?

I am considering getting rid of the air conditioning on my 87 IROC L98. I never use it and I don't think I ever have. Will it give my car any hp gains or increase performance? How hard is it to do, whats all involved? I am going to be installing a new camshaft here in about a month, so I think I will just do it then. I know I have to go to a place and have all the freon sucked out, what will that cost? Thanks for the help.

My air was 40 degrees and worked perfectly but i have never used it so this winter i ripped it out. I perfer opening window and listening to a V8 rather then having the windows up. I got a AC delete pulley. Non AC heater box and hampster wheel and a Non AC heater control box and that was it looks very nice (only think i cant find yet is the heater switch) Looks so open with it out.since i ripped out my smog too i can accually see the pass side valve cover perfect.

Piece of cake, I did it when I changed radiators. Just make sure up you bleed the pressure off. You should have V-belts so no need for an A/C delete pulley.

There shouldn't be a need to bleed off any pressure. If you remove everything in the way of the condensor (in front of radiator), evaporator (against firewall), accumulator (silver can), and compressor, you and a friend can lift the whole system "up" and "out" of the car without opening a single a/c line or hose.

When I dissconnect the evaporator from the fire wall, will any freon come out of there?

I too am interested in this. Some moron before me added a/c to a 1LE. Cant I just get a shorter serpentine belt to bypass the a/c?

Taking it off is going to **** my girlfriend off when summer comes....damnnnnnnn
