Same thing they Thought When the Put in the 85 Mph Speedo.
Not to Go off on a Tangent, But I always wonderd Why car companys Always seem to Short Shift their "performance" cars. Why Did GM have the Camaro's with LG4's ? Why Not L98 across the Board, The Tech was there, Who would want a Lg4 over a L98? there is No benifit.
What about The New S10 extreme's ? They look fast, The act fast, But Why dosent GM just break down and Equip them Factory with a LS1, then they would BE fast.
It goes back For ever. Why Did My buddies Vette have a Factory L48, making a Oh So impressive 175 Hp ? Why Dont they Just make their cars as Fast as they Can ?
I dont get it

i agree i bet if i raced a rice rocket i would have a hard time beating him. my motor is in mint condition and im not a big fan of pulling out something good to get something better. when the part dies then ill change it but this is an exception i need some power
ps we have about 5 inches of snow on the road here and i just went for a drive a lot of fun usually i only drive if the forecast is good and there is no snow
speaking of the sppedo in canada it goes to 120kmh one day a ***** looked at my speedo and said "ha ha only 120 my car can kick your cars *** " what a idiot typical *****

When i first got My car, Totaly stock except for new oil and belts, I kept Dead even with a New Mercedes C class 2dr Coupe. A twin Turbo Eclipse Beat me, and I destroyed like 4 or 5 Run of the mill Rice machines.
Soon as I get My new distributor In, I imagine I should have **some** huevos, We will see.

You gotta go in and dig out those EPA bureaucrats living in the bowels of your lg4. EPA specs for CO, HC, and NO emissions are the same across the board for all engines. It a LOT easier to keep a small rice engine within the good graces of the EPA than a big honkin' meat-eating American V8. That's why the 454SS Chevy trucks were a failure. Trying to keep 454 cubic inches from exceeding the EPA limits is an engineering nightmare.
Build your 305 like something from 1970 and you'll thump that fishhead and rice eating Jap knockoff.

hey dont feel too bad...some of those probes are turbo from the factory...not sure which ones though. i used to have an LG4...man it sucked...but one day, i had 4 people in my car...and a turbo LeBaron pulls up next to me...man we were dead even for a while but i finally pulled ahead..i was suprised at my litte pos motor...anyway, you can mod the LG4
to do sokme impressive stuff, you just need the time/money/right plan to do so...
------------------
350, Comp 262, Edelbrock Performer intake 600 cfm carb and exhaust, headers

The problems with the LG4 are, in order:
Exhaust from heads to street
Cam
Computer control system
Gear
You've already done the cat-back, which is an excellent poace to start. Get a set of good-quality small tube headers, not just the cheapest thing you can find that is labelled "headers" on the box. Edelbrock TES is a good match for that setup. You need to get rid of the crap catalytic converter, so get the TES for a 350 car; it will bolt right up to everything else you've got, but will have the bigger Y-pie and flange for the larger cat.
A cam that people report good results with is the Comp XE262H. That's a flat-tappet cam, but you might have a roller motor; if you do, get the Comp 260HR.
The carb and dist can be made to work OK at WOT, but are pitiful under every other operating condition. If it is possible in your jurisdiction you should ditch them and the computer. It's an all or nothing kind of deal though, you either replace them both or keep them both.
You probably have 2.73 or 2.77 gears. 3.42 is a good choice for replacement. If you have the 9-bolt you're kind of screwed because gears are expensive and hard to find. IMHO a better choice might be to look around and wait for a 91-92 10-bolt which will also have the better disk brake system.
There's not alot more you can do to the motor without major surgery; the next improvement would be to up the compression which requires new pistons which is a complete teardown and rebuild which is stupid to waste on a 305 core IMHO. But the things listed above will make a huge change to the car.

The things I did were to get a TES headers, high flow cat, and good 3" cat-back system. The next was to do a Performer intake manifold and add 1.6 roller rockers.
The cam and heads suck on your engine too. World Products is about the only company I know of that makes good heads for the 305. The 262 may be a bit much in a 305 because that is what I have in my 350 and I could never get it to idle right with the computer controlled q-jet.
Torque converter... 3000 rpm stall... great launches...
------------------
1984 z28 w/ a 357 cu in. monster engine which is looking like the posterchild for Edelbrock... all the suspension stuff... 9-bolt posi disk is in... K&N filter... 93 octane...

Headers. Headers. Headers.
I shouldn't really say that because they are worthless without the rest of the exhaust system. As for headers get something like 1-5/8 primaries and a 3" collector. 3 inch all the way back would be nice, not always needed. 2.5" should be fine unless you plan on running a lot of power.
After that a nice Edelbrock Performer intake will compliment your setup nicely. Then you get into the deeper stuff, a cam, 1.6 roller rockers, World S/R Torquer heads. There are a lot of options depending on what you want to do.
Also, NOS is a option. You could probably run something like a 90hp shot without a problem. Of course you could rebuid the entire engine with forged pistons and crank and run a large shot of nitrous. Its a nice way to get a lot of HP out of a 305 -=)
Make sure the rest of your car is strong. Do a complete tune up. Go for a shift kit and vette servo in the 700R4. You could go for 3.73 rear gears if you wanted them but most people with a 4 speed go 3.42. Get some LCAs and up the rest of your suspension. Make sure you have some nice tires in the back that grip well.
Do this then go hand that ***** his *** -=)

Hey man, I used to have a 90 Ford Probe GT. It had the 2.2 Turbo motor. Bone stock, i ran a 15.73 with it. My friend just sold an 89 LeBaron turbo. Stuck right with my Probe. Some cars are just quick. At least ours look good
