Belt broke from water pump, temp rose way over 260......
Will there be any problems from any of the gaskets or seals in my car after it ran so hot? The temp must have gotten to about 300 degrees and there was white smoke coming from the back of the car. After inspecting the engine bay I noticed that there was coolant all over the passenger side of the bay. Coolant appeared to be shooting from the overflow resovoir onto the exhaust manifolds causing the white smoke that was coming from the car. I am not too worried about the engine right now since I am going to swap it out in about six months with a 350 or 400, I just want it to last until I have the cash for the new motor.

If the white smoke from the back of tha car was coming out of the engine compartment from spilled coolant and not out of the tail pipes you might be okay. I had my engine severely overheat several years ago. (Have you ever seen a pegged temperature guage? I have) Now at about 100,000 miles later it's still running strong without ever even having pulled off the valve covers.

Then again, i partially overheated my 85 when it formed an air pocket after driving all day in the summer and lost a head gasket. Then a year or 2 later i started throwing alt/WP belts at high rpms, and even though i always immediately shut down, the small amount of heat cycling that it did manage was enough to help me along to losing another head gasket.
If it still runs fine and isn't making any strange noises then you might have lucked out. My head gasket problems would usually surface as a miss when cold that would get better with rpms and temperature. It would reseal itself when hot, and at high rpms it didn't leak bad enough to affect firing.

The 305 seems to be pretty indestructible from an overheating standpoint. I overhaeted my 305 in my Caprice about 20 times
(overflowing reservoir and all) before I gave up trying to figure it out, and just put in a new rad, which fixed the prob. This same engine now has 312,000 miles on it, no probs other than a one-cylinder knock sometimes. Never been opened. Still running strong.

My serpentine belt broke once when I was driving by my ex-girlfriends. My temperature gauge was literally past the red. I drove her home anyway since it was close. I'll never forget the cooking sound I heard coming from the car for the next hour. I was sure it was done for.
When I got a new belt put back in 10 minutes later, I raced and beat a 94 LT1 Camaro A4.
2 years and 20,000 miles later and the car is faster than ever. haha..The real test for this engine will be to see if it can handle the Vortech that will be going on there in the next few months. whats up ! whats up boyyyyy!

Thanks for the replies.
I think the car is running ok, runs just like it did before the problem.
