2 vs. 4 bolt

I havent ever seen this debated since I have been a member so here it is. For those of you running between 400 to 500 HP/TQ stroker motors, whats your opinion/expeirence about running a two bolt main vs. a four bolt. I am stroking the motor in my Z and want to use my stock block because its a roller block. I have an older block (4 bolt) but do not want to retrofit it for a roller cam, which is a must for my preference. I guess I can splay my stock block..... but like I said, Opinion/experirnce's please.

splayed mains are stronger then factory 4 bolts because they are off set and not in a straight line like the factory blocks.

i wouldn't worry too much about hom many bolts hold the main caps on. i worry more about blueprinting the crank and rods along with useing good rod bolts

I was planning on studding the bottom regardless if I splay it or not. I would have to agree that machining and balancing the bottom end is more critical. I would still like to see some more opinions on this subject. Thanks.

Many years ago the webbing around the mains were thin and weak and would not handle a 4 bolt mains straight in. So they angled them into a stronger part of the block. and that cured the problem and they still use that today. Now if you have a newer
block the webbing issue has been fixed and when the block machining is done properly, you shouldn't have any problems with a standard 4 bolt main arrangement.
