Strange no start problem

Okay first off I will say that this happened to me this morning and it is the second (2nd) time it has happened in three (3) years. I am not terribly worried about it, but it always happens at the worst of times.

Anyway, the car just won't do anything when the key is turned to the start position. All the electronics inside work, guage shows plenty of juice, fuel pump primes, radio comes on, blower motor will work, everything. But no clicking, no sound coming from the starter at all. Both times it has been in the morning, and both times when I get home from work it will start up without a problem.

So here's the question: has anyone else had a strange problem like this? It won't do anything, starting wise, and then, after like 8-10 hours, it starts fine. Any suggestions or experiences welcome...

your connections to the starter may be a lil rusty and check your ground connections...

probably VATS though as said above.

VATS, the starter enable relay, and my clutch switch have all been on my mind while I was at work today. I swing mostly towards the VATS given the frequency(or lack there of) of the no start issue.

Token,

I read that entire post, man, what a month you had!!! I had a problem almost a year ago with my car cranking, no fire. It finally ended up being a bad computer, but for about a week, I was pulling out my hair trying to track it down. Found the problem, hearter core started to leak slightly and the computer was just on the floor for PROM tuning. Antifreeze followed the wiring down to the plugs, and zzzzzzaaaaaapppppp, let the smoke out...

Try using your spare key if you have one.

My car just did the same thing. I dont have vats. Ive checked the park/neutral safety, starter, battery, and now testing wires. What I have found so far is im thinking I have a short. I thought it was a heat problem because it happened after I went somewhere and then car wont start. But while troubleshooting I have found if i leave the key on for a little it wont start, engine cold, everything else works, but i can jump the starter and it starts. Haven't pinpointed it yet but I believe it is in between the neutral safety switch and starter. It started happening every once in a while now after I start the car let in run for 15 seconds turn off it wont start, or I turn key on 15 sec. car wont start. Thats all i know for now, maybe ill find the culprit this weekend and ill let ya know. I am open to any suggestion also.

This is only the second time in 3 years that my car would not start. It has only occured when cold, sitting over night. In the morning it would do nothing, and in the evening, it would start like normal. I don't know what to think, but I am not too worried about it. We will see what happens in the near future...
