Should I get this longblock?

I found a real cheap longblock. The casting number is 10243880. At www.mortec.com it says this
10243880...350...95-00...2 or 4...Vortec truck, Gen.I crate motors and "ZZ4", roller cam, one piece rear seal

What does it mean when it says Gen.1 Crate motors and "ZZ4"? It's a 4 bolt main which is cool too. It's got 906 heads on it. Do you think they're the ones with the exhaust port problem? Should I get this? It's only like $200.

Dude I dont know the exact specs on that motor but jump on it, you cant pass up that deal. I see those engines going on ebay all the time for like $1500 used. It would be a very good engine to build on and if your not looking to build it , it still puts out good power and could easily put you in the 13's with a good intake manifold, a full exhuast, and a throttle body. Thats an awesome deal have it checked out before you buy it though. good luck.

Sweet man that's what I was hoping for. It's already got the Vortecs, I'm going to do a TPI setup on it. Hoping low 13's to high 12's.

Any other input on this motor?

True, there could be something wrong with this motor? Because for that price get your flag ready.

Sounds to me like a wore out truck motor. Probably nothing wrong with it other than having lots of miles, and it probably needs valve guide seals and rings. Which of course means it needs a rebuild.

Consider it as merely a core. Hopefully it doesn't have a cracked casting such as heads; that's usually why a complete seemingly running motor is available at an impossibly good price.

Expect something seriously wrong unless this is some kind of brother-in-law deal or the like. In an arm's-length transaction between strangers in a for-profit environment, that's too cheap. "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."

hey bro my freind works at chevy most of these engines that are taken out are for warranty work mostly because of neglect:the vortec heads are known to crack i had one set that had over 30 cracks in them brought them back to him and he gave me another set the used motor(long block) cost me the fine amount of 107.50 the core charge price from chevy ...btw i checked the bottom end of the last motor i got it had 86000 on it and the bearings are fine,no ridge in the cylenders, good brass freeze plugs...new comp.roller, bouble roller chain, oil pump and its goin in my s10,i now have less than 600.00 in the motor the cam was 260.00...

Vortec engines are know for intake manifold failres, of course intake manifold failures occure on every plastic meshed garbage GM came up with. Most likely the plenum cracked or the gasket blew and this engine seen some dexcool contamination. Thats why its cheap, these engine run very good theres no logical reason a good running engine was pulled. I have plans to get a Vortec setup for my truck, harnes and all as soon as one is avalible.

as per gm rep,"it takes less flag time to r&r an engine than to do a head swap and possibly have other problems "works for me i now have a good supply of good cores, from roller 4bolts to 2bolts,i have 2 that have 4bolts and steel cranks from hd trucks...
