Wipers not shutting off AND cruise donīt work
Wipers not shutting off AND cruise donīt work
My wipers wonīt shut off directly when I turn them off, it takes between one and five minutes. My cruise donīt function either. No fuses are burned. It must be the turn/cruise/wiper arm, or?
Is it hard to change, I have radio controls in the steering wheel, and is it expensive?
The cruise isnīt so important, I just want the wipers to work.
Very grateful for help!

The wiper problem is an extremely common one, but is internal to the wiper motor. It involves the cam system inside there that "parks" the wipers instead of continuing to wipe. You need a new wiper motor.
The cruise could be any of several things. A good place to start looking is the brake light switch area. There's a cruise disengage switch there too, which may be out of adjustment.

I have the exact same two problems as you. I haven't fixed either one of them yet. I am sure you can find a wiper motor at the junkyard for pretty cheap, but I don't know how you can be sure it works. I haven't found any place that sells aftermarket ones either.
That stupid windshield wiper motor drives me nuts.
As for the cruise, I have absolutuly no clue as to why its not working. It looks as though there was an Audiovox alarm system put into my car some time ago, and whoever installed the system was a moron, seeing as how I have wires all split and put back together all over the place, I am thinking that one of those cruise control wires were shot.

Wiper motors just arent that expensive, I think you'd be wiser, and cheaper in the long run, to get one at autozone. The used one out of the junkyard may well work, but then you'll be facing the same problem down the road in short order I would think.
Thanks for the tip abot autozone they werenīt so expensive, about $60.
And for you, Sonar_un, can I tell that I also once upon a time hade a Audiovox alarm system in my car. I have recently bought it so I only know that it doesnīt work. Under my steering wheel are there also wires that have been split and then put back together.
Sorry about my bad english

Glad to hear the wiper problem is fixed!
Now for the cruise. I hate having it and it not working. Unfortunately mine doesn't have it, but I can help! The most common problem on hte cruise is the wires where they come from the turn signal lever and run into the steering column break. Sometimes you can get it to work with the wipers on, or the turn signal on, or something like that if this is the problem. To repair it, you simply replace the lever. It just pulls out, and you have to fish the wire out, and the new one down in. I usually attach a wire to the old one so that I can pull the new one through.
Next thing is the brake switch as mentioned before. I think there is a vacuum and an electrical portion that can fail. prett easy to test, and to replace.
The other common component is the cruise module. It is under the dash pad. I really don't remember how to test it, but it is usually the last thing if everything else checks out.
There are more things to check, but this should get you a start.
Good luck.

We sincerely apologize for our poor Norwegian, as well. I'm impressed that your skills with the language are better than some of the members who live in the US, and even more impressed that you were able to find an AutoZone in country.
My wife has roots in the Moi/Lund area, and she hardly ever goes to AutoZone.

Just to weigh in with a slightly different view of the problems:
About a year ago, my 83 Monte Carlo SS had multiple simultaneous problems. These problems slowly developed to the points desribed:
1) The wipers would not immediately shutoff. Sometimes they wouldn't shutoff at all. Other times, they would turn on by themselves. Other times, the washers would just come on and never stop - had to shut the car off to get them to stop.
2) The cruise just didn't work at all.
3) Occasionally, the cruise would engage for no reason while driving. The car would accellerate on it's own. This got my full attention more than once. My wife almost wrecked the car due to this. To this day she won't drive it.
Now, understand that the M/C SS has the same crappy stalk that the third gens have.
This was serious enough that I wanted it fixed right. I ended up taking it to a Chevy garage and having it fixed. As it turned out, #1 and #2 above were due to a faulty stalk. Some of the insulation came off the wires and they were shorting - new stalk fixed it.
The cruise problem was two-part. First again, the stalk wiring was bad. Second (and the reason for the surprise acceleration) was moisture got into the cruise unit and it was shorting things out. I had this replaced, too.
This was not cheap. I had a few other things done and the total was $965...
