I've ran a tall fill in my 383, and i've got a short fill in the 406. No problems on the street at all, just make sure you have a top notch cooling system, just to be sure. i've been thinking of goin to a tall fill in the 406 when i put in the splayed main caps, i don't think it will be a problem, even though i don't know anyone runnin a tall fill in a 400 (street). I own a set of torque plates, so i fill blocks all the time for my friends, never seen any problems in any of the probably 15 engines.

people usually run short fills on the street, just under the front freeze plugs...cooling is supposedly better with a short fill because the coolant stays cooler since it's not absorbing heat from the oil, which performs better at a higher temperature anyway.

i am running the big Be-Cool rad. and fan kit. tha radiator barely fits between the frame rails . and i plan on as much nitrous as nessissary to uhh ummm get to the finish line first. the last motor was in the car when i bought it and i was spraying 300 shot on cast pistons(they were suspos to be forged) they broke on a 350 shot when i didn't pull out enough timing
