Wish,

Of the eight cars/trucks I have, the most I have in any one of them is just under $30K, so you've got a long way to go. I have about $11,000 in a truck that still doesn't move. Anyone have a cab for a '50 Chevy 3100?

Approaching $5,500 on the engine alone (and I still need to buy parts to put it together! ).

Built SBC = $5000+
3rd gen for said SBC = $2000
Built draivetrain to handle all that power = $1500
Look on opponents face when you kill him down the track = Priceless

I bought my 88 IROC 5.7TPI in November for $5200. Since then I have spent just under $3000. None of the items I bought were performance items either.

Thank God my wife doesn't come to this web site.

i don't want to know on the 85. i do know most of the parts i've bought came with 2 spares that sit in a closet now. my 68 i bought cheap, i know i can more than double my money on it. my old truck i have 800 in and it has 38,500 miles on it now. my jimmy is new and cost accordingly.i have a mercades that belonged to my grandpa so i have nothing in it. my son has a 88 camaro i have a lot of money and lot of my spare parts find they way on to it.

I bought mine brand new. After I paid off the loan I decided that whenever something broke or wore out I would replace it with a performance upgrade. I've got to say I invested over 20 grand, and if I sold it I wouldn't get back half of that.

But of course, I will never sell it.

car-$900 (excellent deal. 68K, great shape in and out...but i blew up the LG4)
motor-$1000
suspension-$300 (only re-bulit the back so far)
misc maintenance-$100 (brakes etc)
so thats $2300 including car, with conservative estimates. still need to get a trans, rear and rebuild the front suspension. still want new rims/tires and a paint job too. ive got a while to go!
if you add my stereo system, thats another $1000, but I've been building/adding on and upgrading that for the 2 1/2 years ive been driving so far.

I added up all my receipts a couple months ago and they came to just under $12,000. That included the 3,200 I paid for the car itself. Since then I have probably put in another $200. I hope nothing forces me to sell this thing. BIG loss. This reminds me, I need to up my insurance coverage.

My car was 500 bucks and if you count the two trannys and two engines I have had the total is about 17 G's. I did get money back for selling old parts but if you want to go fast you got to have CASH.

When I first bought my race car it was a street car in very good condition. It already had the 383 (that I finally blew up) and a 700R4 tranny. I paid $5000 for it 2 years ago mainly because the body was in mint condition with only a few dings, no rust at all. Since then I've completely gutted the car and changed the complete powertrain. Not counting the big block I'm currently building I guess I've invested about another $3000-$5000. The big block should cost about $6000-$7000 when I finally get it installed.

All prices in Canadian funds

Well now that I know that Im not the only one spending big money on their rides. Hmmm, I woner where I'll start next.

I guess I start to make the little 305 faster without having to pull the motor.

Hmm, what shall it be?..

How fast do you think my car is as it sits?

Paid 3700 for an 85 T/A with a new 305. I have since put in close to 2000 (not including paint) in it. I got hosed on this one. I hope to see 3000 when I put it up for sale in a week or so. Oh well. I just like to work on cars, fix them up and sell them. If I ever buy another 3rd Gen, it will be with a 350 and a nineties model.

alot of money indeed!!,but much less than a new car,I'm putting in a new engine that will cost me somewhere around $3000. just did new brakes and power steering for a total of $500.selling it now is not an economical alternative.

I spent $3500 on the '82Z and I've easily spent another $2500 on top of that...and I haven't even gotten to the expensive stuff yet

Kinda sucks because of the kinda car I coulda bought for $6000 would probably be faster than mine now, but I should be very happy with it when I'm finished.

About $10k to date. Another $2k when the paint job is done (everything is jambed already). And yes it is for sale, but it'll cost you more than ~$12k I've got into it .

well lets see....i put a $600 exhaust system in my '79 Firebird (which was free, curtousy of my aunt), and a $500 stereo system. Then i got an 88 GTA for $4500, $400 for a complete tune-up, took the stereo from the 79 and put it in the GTA (another $250), then 200 for flowmaster, 200 for hypertech chip, 50 for K&N filter, 50 for TB Airfoil, and a couple hundred to replace the heater core. So if i do the math correctly i'd say around $7k.

Poll answer, about $12 g's. $5,900 for the car, which was in excellent cond. when I bought it two years ago, about $4,500 for the engine rebuild and new drive train, and a couple more thousand for for miscellaneous expenses. ie, tires, shocks and struts, brakes, alternator and starter replacements, and an expensive experience with a bad VATS system, almost $800 bucks!

I just got to about $6500 after spending $1100 for 4th gen rear and all the rear suspension parts i could buy. but that's a good thing b/c it's 89 GTA and now i can't sell for a profit and can spend lots of money to make it fast instead of just keeping it going. I feel better seeing people that spent 17Gs on a thirdgen.

$4800 for the car. Well worth it. Awesome condition! About $300 bucks in parts that didn't need to be changed: iac valve ($104), map sensor ($98), thermostat ($45), ignition module ($48), tps ($28), cts ($85). The extreme prices of the iac vavle, map sensor, and cts was due to the fact that my parents didn't trust me and had a mechanic do the work instead. That's ok though. I made them pay for those expenses. BTW, I don't have a single mod on my car. Maybe one day I'll catch up to you guys.

5,450 bucks in it so far. Not bad considering that you can't find a camaro convertible in cincinnati for less than 7,500 (asking price-i know, it sounds crazy, but someone is paying it) in my condition(not actually as nice as mine). But a new exhaust is on the way and leather interior will empty my bank account. Oh well, i am only 18, i got plenty of time to make more money to stick in the car.

I bought my '83 Z28 for $650, got a new front clip from an '87 RS for $500 and painted it in my garage for $200. I got the windows professionaly tinted for $200. Other than that most of the mods I have done costed only my time and patience...

I hand polished the factory sand cast aluminum rims... they are smooth and shiny now. I fabricated cold air induction with a jigsaw and some chicken wire. I lowered the front suspension with a cold chop saw. I extended the '83 rocker panels with aluminum weather stripping and short strand fiberglass... and more.

All in all, I probabely have about $1500 into the car... it runs and looks sweet... I am building a 350 for it now.

GMI,

Yup, or you could spend the same $$$ and build a numbers match street sleeper yourself.

1- very ugly 1966 Corvette Coupe - #'s match- $14,700

1- gigantic pile of mail order parts, machine work, etc. $13,000

1- Huge dose of man hours, and 1 extremely helpful brother.

=

Nassau Blue midyear coupe that looks bone stock and runs 12.68 ET @ 109 mph corrected.

I'll have $29,000 in it by the time it's all the way finished - and it will be worth about $35,000.

But, alas, it ain't fer sale. It's my Prozac replacement therapy. Ho,Ho,Ho.....

I don't think anybody wants to really add it up - especially if the spousal unit is in the room.

But...

$200 for car
$850 for parts car
Another $350 (after subtracting parts sold) to get it running
Recently:
$75 for ignition parts
$360 for tires
~$100 for oil, filters, etc.

Oh, I just filled it up with gas today. I guess that puts me over $2k.

(Won't add in the 1320' entry fees last summer)
