How do i make my LG4 fast?!
Ok, it's a slow car, but it's a Trans Am so it should be fast right?! How do i get my ET down, i've never gone to the track but i need to go faster than those f*(*ing Hondas on the street!!!!! I can't stand them! They beat me too! Some help on what to do and how much it would cost.

Here is what I did, but I don't know how fast my SC is, I have'nt been to the track yet... From a SOFTP the 3.73 made a nice difference...

The best things you can do to make your car faster is exhaust modifications and a gear change. Headers and a good cat back kit is a nice start. Porting the heads and changing cams will make the exhaust mods work even better if you want to go that far with your current motor. Switching to a steeper gear ratio will also help you a lot.

ok, here is what ya gotta do-
can the gears, put in some 3.42's
can the CAM- put in a crane compucam 2032, should give you a big improment over stock
MUST DO- 1 inch carb spacer
underdrive pulley's
timing advance
headers (i like the tes ones)
and a 3 inch cat back.
right now, i currently have just some carb tuning, carb spacer, and a 3 inch cat back off my 88 formula that was wrecked.... i am into the high 15's now, with 2.73 rear gears, and when i switch to the 342 rear i got, i can expect low 15's

thanks for the fast answers! I'm racing on Saturday w/ some friends and don't want to be embarrassed by having the slowest 1 there. There are going to be a 2001 Honda Prelude(
),a 1992 Ford Probe, 1985 or 1986 Camaro with 305 HO, and a 1987 Fiero GT, so it is kinda stiff. My friend is helping me gut the cat on Wedsnesday, so that should be good for 10-15 hp. What else could i/ should i modify before Saturday that isn't to complex, or difficult to give me an edge?!

Well, I tell ya, Ive got the Same Motor In the Same year SC, and its not that Slow.
Ive Switched Carbs and Dist's To non Computer Controlled and Added a 3" exhaust from the Y pipe Back, Removed the AC and All emissions, and, Well, My car Scoots. Yeah Its not the fastest thing On the Block, But it moves.
I am currently Debateing Either dropping a few hundred on the shortblock and building up the LG4, or dropping the 1.2k On the GM crate and going that route. Im not sure which I should do yet
When I replaced the cat On Mine, it made a HUGE differance. Same with when I replaced the Carb. I would Go ahead and Do headers Now, but Im having Hookup Problems So suspension Is My Concern atm.
look up a Post by me called something to the effect of "aftermarket cam w/ Lg4 heads " Or something, It has alot of Good Info frmo a few ppl on How to Hop up this motor W/o breaking the Bank.
And Dont be So Damn concerned with Beating everyone, there will always be someone faster
racing is a personal thing
The only one You have to beat out there is yourself.
btw My car, as Is, Beat a 1999 prelude by about a car length So You can Do it too

Ok
Your problem is three charcters long
LG4
i saw a car craft magazine that said 450hp 305. So i bought it and looked at the article.
They swaped out every part of the damn motor.
The block was the only thing that they kept.
So your anwser is
350 cid.

Well, I got beat out on getting to tell you to scrap the LG4!
But seriously, I love the reliability mine has shown me, and it isn't all that slow either.
I think you may be amazed by the difference a good tune-up will give you. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, timing check, air filter, etc.... Especially if you haven't done this recently!
You may also want to play with the timing a little. I bumped mine up to like 10 degrees. I almost NEED to run premium fuel that way, but it feels a bit quicker. I won't take this thing out to the track with the LG4 in it though, so I have no idea where I'm at right now!

I took my junky LG4 to the track when it was near stock, and it ran a 16.1. That is pathetic. My wifes Bonneville runs a 15.9. Thats when I had to do something. Of course, what I did, you wouldn't be able to to by satruday, buy hey, have fun anyway. I did, even with my 16 sec 1/4 mile. At least it wasn't 17's like the V6 4th gen!!!

Ok, so i guess i'll advance the timing a bit before the weekend, also considering a 1" carb spacer. But should i get the one with 4 holes or an open (plenum?!) spacer. I'm feelin open, and i'm going to mess with incoming airflow too, and drop the factory ram-air box, since i ghetto-rigged it half-open. It lets rain in and crap, so i'll drop some weight and let some hot air out too.
