a fiero? i don't know, never been in one. what kind of engine do they have? what are the 1/4 mile times?

never cared much for the look of them, hehe but i do know they have less room in the back then our cramped backseats! (because they have none, if my memory is right)

I've never considered owning one,but I've heard they are kinda quick,I'm not surprized because they wiegh nothing and some have turbo v6s I think. I'm turned off by the looks of most of them,I've heard just doing a spark plug change is a major project because the engine is so cramped.also I would be scared shi tless to get in to an accident with one!! legend has it that my friends brother had one with a modded suspension and firebird wheels on it,and it took out lots of cars on malden,MA backroads in insane road races.sounds like fun...but I still couldn't drive one,I guess anything can grow on you if you get exposed to it.

Came w/ 2 engine options a 2.3(around there) L4 and a 2.8L V6. puts out about 160 hp, don't know how much torque....feels like a ton. Acceleration is 0-30 in 2.2 seconds, faster than a Lamborghini Diablo, tops out around 135, suspension of a Ferrari 308 (Pontiac made it) and the 88 GT has a Lotus suspension. Of course it has manual steering and the gears are sooo close that first is like 1 inch to the left of 5th...

The 'Lotus designed 88 Fiero GT suspension' is a myth. It's just not true.

That being said, Fiero GTs are bada$$ little pocket rockets. I'd love to have one. Since they weigh nothing, that 2.8 propels them to some pretty decent low to mid 15 second 1/4 mile times, stock.

Mr. J,

You are correct. Lotus did NOT design the front suspension for '87 'P' cars. Some elements of the Lotus-style suspension and steering were used on the car, and Lotus designed those pieces for the Lotus. Some Lotus engineers might even have put a little time ont eh 'P' car project, but who really knows? Since GM owns both brands (Lotus and Pontiac) I guess you could loosely say that it's a Lotus suspension - just like the Lumina uses a McClaren suspension, the Silverado pickup uses a Corvette suspension, etc...

Those little things scare me. Ugly and small, I don't like these combo's. I did like the seats though. When you get into one you look behind you it feels like you're sitting in the back seat or our camaro's. I could definatly give respect to a SB fiero though. Those must fly.

Non-tech.. go here: www.nethirdgen.org

Some clarifications:

Never was a stock turbocharged Fiero.
The V6 HP was 135, and 165TQ, never any more than that.
The 4 banger had 98HP, 135TQ.
The suspension(84-87)... I hate to say this, but next time you are in a yard and are checking cars out, compare the Fiero to the Chevette. Some of the parts (ball joints, bushings) are the same deal. I heard from someone I knew that the stuff was pirated from the Chevette, and some stuff modified to work.
Generally the V6 ran about 16 second 1/4's. Its sad they killed the car, search for the 89 prototype, because it looks awesome.

Incidentally:

There never was a stock Fiero Turbo;

The LXX four-cyl 151 made 132HP (Found in a rare few 1984 Indy option and a couple of other SC's), and the '85+ 2.8L V-6 made 135HP;

You're right on the suspension - the '84-'87 front ends were 100% Chevette with a few minor braces and better sway bar. The rears wer all Citation/'X' cars with a sway bar in those years. The rear discs were the same pitiful calipers used on the pre-'89 ThirdGens - you know, the ones that stick all the time;

A 98HP four would do a heart-pounding 18+ second quarter, gasping all the way (LMFAO);

The Fiero was the foundation platform for almost every car GM manufactures now, other than the rear drives. Although the marketing experiment failed for the two-seater, every bit of engineering done for the RIM plastics and space-frame high-rigidity/high resonant frequency rolling chassis was used as the basis for the entire Saturn concept, and is now used on every GM A, J, L, N, and W platform. You might have seen advertisement for the "new" Buicks and Ponchos with high structural integrity. When you see one, think "Fiero".
