do a search.

i look down the Tech board and i see 6 post by you all that could be answered by doing a search. you'll find it easier and quicker to do a search for any questions you have, because most likely its been asked before.

as for guidplates.

if your pushrods fit tight inside the head(no side to side play at all)= no guidplates needed.

if you have a narrow slot for the pushrod or a large slot for the pushrod= guideplates or self-aligning rocker arms.

you have to have screw in rocker studs to run guideplates (which is a good idea anyway).

and if you run guideplates make sure to get hardened pushrods.

sorry if i'm coming off rude, everyone here is plenty happy to help, but trust me, you'll find it very hard to get every answer you have on your hot-rodding journey, if you post every question, and don't do a search first.

you need guideplates if have non-self aligning rockers, you don't use them if you have self aligning rockers

Actually I have searched but maybe I just suck at wording the search, but I always get hundreds of posts and its hard to read thru it all.

you need guide plates when you have no other method of locating the push rods
