Idling rough after new plugs and wires.
Idling rough after new plugs and wires.
I just recently installed new plugs and msd 8.5mm superconductor wires. At idle it is a little rougher then before...the rpms seem to drop a little and then go back up. Just a tiny bit...cant even really see it on the tack...just feel it. The plugs all went in with no problem or anything. And they all had normal wear on them. Any ideas as to what this may be?
If you improperly gapped a plug or didn't gap them they could of come improperly gapped. You may of not put a plug wire on fully and there is the possibility that one of the wires is a defect.....but I'd check the other ones first.

I used Bosch Platinum's. I gapped all the plugs...although on one of the plugs the electrode felt a little loose...could this cause it? Im not having any driving problems...it runs stronger then before...and other then the slight rpm jump at idle is fine. Is this something i should worry about...or not too big of a deal? I guess im asking if i should just leave it as opposed to having to redo all those goddamn hard to reach plugs.
It all depends on how much of a "jump" it is. If it's real noticeable then it's probably almost atleast a minor miss. If it's only really noticeable to you and you can keep your sanity in check it'll be fine to drive around like that.

I've heard that you aren't supposed to gap pre set platinum plugs because you can chip the plat. tip and break it away.
I don't know if this would cause a noticable problem or if its even true.
Could just be "bench racing"
If the plug electrode was loose I would check it out. I've had a electrode come off the end of the plug and smash between the valve head and seat and bend the valve, the electrode piece was still stuck in the seat.

Bosch platinums are not pre gapped. bosch platinum +4s are pre gapped....cuz there are four contacts....a gap tool wouldnt fit. anyways...sounds like it could maybe be a lumpy cam...or your imagining things or the ac or something could be on...or your just trippin....or ignition probs.
