Sean, I think you're freaking out more than necessary. That block has been hit or dropped, but the damage is in a non-critical area. I know it looks bad, but it's probably not.

The oil filter seals on the flat surface INSIDE that outter ring. Unless the filter sealing surface has a crack extending into it or has been "warped" due to the hit on the outside you should have no problems with that block.

A small crack on the outside there won't hurt anything- it's just solid cast iron- there's no oil or coolant flowing around that outter ring and it doesn't have any real stress placed on it during engine operation so there's little chance the crack will contiue to grow.

I hope you feel better.

I still don't see it, but my eyes are probably old and out of focus.

If the crack doesn't intrude into the filter boss area, you can drill a relief hole at the end of the crack to prevent it growing, then nickel weld the crack and machine/pein ir smooth and flat again. As Damon indicated, if it isn't into the filter boss, you should have no problems.

Got any better photos for us old guys?

well, i have taken about 20 pics trying to better them, and every time its either too dark, too bright, SOMETHING doesnt happen right. im thinking that the oil is making the light reflect....

i was just trying to post the best pics i have so far....thats why i re posted. the only thing i worry about is the crack spreading deeper, eventually reaching the oil filter sealing surface, or going upward more on the bell....

and gta master..lol thats the reason i posted this, to show the crack ...maybe you were being sarcastic
