my new motor...

Hey guys, as most of u know my motor sucked a valve and wrecked itself on saturday. So today me and my dad went to engine place in philadelphia and i ordered a 350 1-peice rear main seal short block with flat top pistons for 558 bucks with tax. I then got home called up jegs and ordered the XE274 cam kit, then i proceeded to call SDPC and I ordered there upgraded Votrec head package witch comes with the heads that have machined guides, z28 springs, and lt4 light weight retainers, and it also came with head and intake gaskets, rocker arms, head and intake bolts and a performer rpm intake. all of this together came to a grand total of $1743.43. Not to bad i'd say. I am gonna throw my HEI dist. in there and my 750 carb on top and this thing should rip. just real excited and wunted every1 to know that i am now broke and will be for a while lol.

how did you get a 350 that cheap. was it used. Sounds like it is going to be sick and i was planning the same thing but didn;t have enough so i'm sticking with a v6. But if i could get a v8 for 600 then i might just change my mind

cool, was that short block used or what cause how'd you get it for that price?

Also why not get the upgraded sdpc kit with the TPI intake maifold that gives you 360HP with a hot cam. I'm saving up for that kit so i can get me some 360HP and 420lbs of touque.

just my .02

Its a rebuilt short block from this engine remanufacturer in philadelphia, they can build whatever you want. ITs the best price i have ever found. It came to 558 with tax and its a 2-bolt main one-peice rear main seal block bored with new cast flat top pistons, reconditioned rods and a reconditioned crank and a stock cam. they use Federal mogul bearings I belive. If i bought the long block it comes with eveything u need except an intake for 995 bucks and has a 12 month unlimited mile warrenty cause they are all dyno tested. The short blocks only have 90 day warrentys but thats 3 months so thats pretty good if u ask me. Oh the reason I didn;t do the tpi thing with SCPC was because my car is set up for a carb and not TPI so i'd rather not take the step back to TPI. In my opinion it robs to much power.

how does the TPI setup rob too much power? How much power are you supposed to be getting from what you got now.

lol i didn't mean it in the way you took it man, If my car came stock with TPI I woudl have probably kept it. But with my pockets its alot easier to make alo more power for less with a carb. I mean if I coudl I would have a stealthram setup oin my bird but hey we can;t all have it lol. man i wish i did though

But what you do have is a great motor with a nice power increase from what you had. You got a great set-up for the price. Good job and enjoy and let us know how it runs

thanks man, I will definatly let you know how it runs. My car ran real good before with bad valve guides and about 8:1 compression with stock heads. Now I will have about 9.5:1 with vortec heads and a nicer cam so I figure I should have no problems shifting my way deep into the 13's.
