Additional alternator

has anyone seen a car with 2 alts? know how to do it? where should it mount? have a huge stereo and don't want to keep going through alts. I just bought an oversized alt but would like the stereo to be completely separate from other components to reduce the chance of shorts and stuff.

I am pretty sure a heavy duty one can support the power needed for killer stereos. Usually only Limo's run two alternators because of al the lighting and refridgeration and stuff. Even the bling bling rapper mobiles one use 1 big heavy alt.

I've heard of two batteries and an HD alternator. Thats a pretty easy process. If you relocate your canister and get another battery tray, you can put a second battery in the front. You really just need the HD alternator, but another battery couldn;t hurt. I run two batteries on my Blazer, but I've also got 36 high intensity strobes, a smart siren, 4 150 watt take down lights and a vector light bar.

I already got 2 optima batteries and 2 5 farad caps but if you look at the system I am making it is a little bit more power than a limo's refrigerator. Just don't want some stupid short from the system being hooked up into just any power source under the dash or something jerry rigged like that.

Why are you going through alternators?
Are the diodes burning when you rev the engine high or what?

If your gonna run dual I would run marine batteries. They work just the same but let a monster boat with twin 455's still crank them over after sitting all day jammin music, fish finders, blenders.....

Its well worth being able to jam the stereo for more then an hr or so and know you got juice to start the car.
