Whats the diff between an LG4 and L69 305

I purchased my HO TA new in 1984 (canadian)
When i tore the heads of the engine for a rebuild and some goodies the pistons are dished ???? the L69 I thought had Flat pistons!! my vin code is the HO (L69). The heads are the HO heads (1.90) intake valves ?
What is going on here? is this a canadian thing "EH"

Are you sure you have an L69 (8th VIN = G) and not the LG4 (8th VIN = H)? No 305 ever had 1.9x", all the carbed 305s had the same "416" casting heads, which had 1.84" intake and 1.50" exhaust valves. Sounds like you have the LG4. Did it have the dual snorkel air cleaner and High Output badges on the dash, rocker panels, and rear bumper?

No dual snorkle just the hood intake.

Think I will anchor my dock with it. Ya that It! and drop in my L82?

Maybe thats not the original engine?

The heads and stuff are identical on the LG4 and L69 engines. The difference is the cam, and the exhaust.

Strange things can happen, especially when warranties are exercised. I picked up an '87 LB9 that was removed from the car in '92, supposedly all factory. Discovered it has two different types of heads on it - one as expected, the other a swirlport.

But, you're the original owner. Ever had warranty work done?

Or, perhaps the factory pulled a fast one.

Or, perhaps it's a Canadian thing...

Kevin, I was under the impression that LG4s had ~8.5 CR, L69s 9.something, due to dished vs. flattop pistons, respectively. Plus cam, exhaust, air cleaner like mentioned, to get the higher HP.

the L69 had 9.5:1 CR and a bumpier cam, better exhaust, the dual snorkel cleaner and all the badges.

Well, it appears the '86 LG4's got the flat tops, so you were correct for that year, at least.

Still had the restrictive air cleaner & exhaust, and whimpy cam, though.
