Engine makes strange noise.
When my car is running I can hear a strange noise. It sounds like some kinda pump or something. Sometimes it's there sometimes it's not. My other Camaro dosen't make the noise at all.

You are welcome smarty pants. Do you have any idea what could be causing this noise.

HIX,
Could be many things, from an alternator bearing or steering pump going, to a torque converter or trans oli pump on an automatic. It could even be a cooling fan.

it's the five speed, sorry forgot to mention that. It sounds like its coming from the back of the engine. It's kind of a tapping noise.

HIX,
It could be a throwout bearing. It could also be a distributor gear, oil pump (not as likely), a loose flywheel bolt or pressure plate bolt, excessive end play in the crank, or an input bearing in the transmission. If you can change the noise by disengaging the clutch, start looking at the clutch/flywheel/transmission. You might be able to isolate it further by removing the flywheel inspection cover and listening while the car is raised.

wow I have a lot to look at, Thanks vader. Pushing in the clutch has no affect on the noise.
