Build it or junk it? Too much bore?

Build it or junk it? Too much bore?
I have an early 90's 350 truck block laying around with a 40 over bore.. I was always told due to the nickle content of em you shouldnt go over 30 on em do to heat/cracking problems.. I'm just wonderin if anybody out there has some experience with em, I ran a hone through it but it still has a lil brown in a hole so I'd probably have to punch it out at least another 10... would it be possible with no major overheating problems or would I have to sleave it? I'd hate 2 throw away a 4 bolt main roller block (ok flat tappet but I can tap bosses with the best of em ...
) I really have no reason to build it other then the fact that I wanna build another engine and I dont have anything with more then 10k on the clock right now and it would be kinda pointless just pullin takin it apart and puttin it back togather... not that I havnt done it before.. it just makes my father kinda angry with me for some reason...

if it doesn't need bored but only one hole repaired a sleeve may be the way to go. 4 bolt 350 blocks aren't that hard to come by for me so i wouldn't bore a block .060 when i can get another block, far as that goes i wouldn't sleeve one either.

For some odd reason 350's even 305 are getting hard to come by in Colorado. I see no reason why .060 over would be a problem. If I had the block stripped down already I'd use it instead of another even though I have quite a few collecting dust.

I hear anything over 30 on the newer blocks like this one is too much... I'm just looking for a straight answer if this is true or not... If I can't use it I dont plan on buying another block to build up simply because I don't actually need it for anything, I just have a collection of parts around and wanted 2 see what I could make out of it.. all I would have to buy is some head gaskets... basically just tryin to decide what to do with this large hunk of metal in the corner of my shed.. other then the bore the block is in excellent shape, after I stripped it down I steam cleaned it.. dipped it.. its basically a nice clean hunk of metal with a tiny bit of brown showin in the number 5 hole.. it ran decent before I pulled it do to a rod knock.. didnt actually have any problems with it as far as overheating goes, it had **** water compression though, huge dished pistons and 76 cc heads.. around 7.5 1..... I was thinking that who ever built it in the first place had it so low do to be easier on the thin cylinder walls.. anybody have any thoughs on this out there?

I asked that question of a couple local engine machinists after hearing that it supposedly isn't a good idea. Both of those guys told me they do it all the time.
I think that the guys who tell you don't do it have a lot of blocks around.
I went ahead and did it, and I'm running about 9.4:1 CR. It's my "cheap" motor tho, stock cast internals, 252 comp hi energy cam. I have about 500mi on it. I don't think it's going to come undone.

eh if it breaks it breaks.. I just feel like doin somethin with my parts collection... lol I guess I'll punch it out in small amounts until it cleans up, it doesnt look that deep... If it blows up all i loose is some money for gaskets..... I'm required to rebuild an engine and heads for my machining class so I figured I'll use this block with some 305 heads, port the **** out of em, larger valves, 3 angle valve job, tap the bosses throw a stock l98 roller cam in it i have with a roller setup from a 305.. thats another question, can i use the 305 roller parts on it with the cam and lifters i have layin around?, then i'll just port the crap out of my tpi intake and gasket match it all, and give it to my dad with my old 700r4 layin around and put it in his el camino in place of the old lg4 and th350... with my old 1 5/8th headers and my old flow master system cut and welded to fit I figure it should give some decent proformance and gas mileage over the bone stock lg4 if i keep the comp ratio around 9.1 or so..... it'll clean up a lot of mess I have layin around too.. if it doesnt hold up I'll just swap the 305 pack in after reringin honing and gasketin it if need be and bolt the tpi up to it..
