HELP! dropping engine in....
HELP! dropping engine in....
I'm in the middle of putting my 454 in my camaro. I need to know what the little capacitor/conddensor that sits behind the carb hooks up to. The wire ( brown) is just dangling there and I don't remeber it being like that. Th car is an 85 berlinetta LG4, carb. The guy that had the car before me took out the air conditioning, added an alarm, etc. so there are a few wires along the firewall that go nowhere.I need to know what this little condenser thingy does, what does it wire up to, and what would happen if I don't hook it up at all. Thanks in advance to everyone that replies

Rob,
The cap was likely there as a surge suppressor, and my guess is that it was in the circuit for a throttle kicker/idle solenoid associated with the air conditioning.
If you don't connect it to anything, probably the worst problem you'll have is some noise in the radio when the AC turns off.

You sure that is'nt the Tach filter that bolts to the back of the drivers side head and plugs into the distributor?

I'm such an idiot. After I started hooking things up I realized it was exactly what Camaro Mike said. I had spliced an aftermarket tach in and when i dug the wire out I realized the BROWN wire was missing. I put 2 and 2 together and there you go problem solved.
By the way, the previous owner bolted it to the intake just behind the carb, so that would be why it wasn't on the back of the head. Man, simply things that you should know
fly out the window sometimes
.
Thanks alot guys,
