If you are talking about the IROC, in 1986 about 50 350's were produced which many don't know, but these were only available with a 5 spd.

Not stock third gens. Not sure if the Firehawks were or not, but if they were that was it for vehicles actually sold to the public.

i seen a article about rare camaros a while ago in a magazine and it also said there were some 5spd 350 camaros built in 86.
I don't think it would be as high as 50 though.. probably more like 5 or so.. because there were only around 50 86 camaros with the 350 built since chevrolet didn't announce the 350 to be available til 87..
I should have the article somewhere.. i think it was in hot rod or chp.. from sometime around 1995 or so.. i tend to keep all the car magazines i get so i should still have it

I have an 86 too, and just because your friend has an auto doesn;t mean there aren't any 5 spds. Just check out any 3rd gen. site that gives prod. #' or hp ratings and they will show a 5 spd. 350.

The thirdgen.org website has this information on this subject. Check the Tech Data. In 86, all the 350's had an automatic tranny, 220HP, 3.27 Borg-Warner, etc... Check the rest of the data in all the other years, no 5sp 350's are listed. Maybe GM slipped one out the door with a 5sp. But is wasn't offered. The t-5 wasn't "rated" to handle the 320+ft pounds of torque.

From Car and Driver, July 1986:
"In its IROC application, the ram-tuned, fuel-injected Corvette powerplant is rated at 220 hp (10 hp was lost to the Camaro's more restrictive exhaust system). It is backed up by a four-speed automatic transmission, because a manual gearbox hefty enough to handle the engine's torque won't fit."
FYI the 1986 IROC they tested was a 5.7, and equipped with a Corvette aluminum head engine and an automatic transmission.
And you should be really careful taking information from online sources as gospel. Printed information has been and always will be more trustworthy.
Here is another source, from Willie, by far one of the best sources of Camaro history on this site. https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000028.html

Mark,
If you follow the link in the article you posted (How to order the 1LE), it tells you that the 1LE was either a 5.0 w/5 speed, or a 5.7 w/automatic. That guy must have wrong. Maybe. I guess that article that it links to is from 1990.

Magazine articles can be wrong as well. I have an 82 blazer with the 6.2 liter diesel and 700R4 automatic. 4 wheel & off road mag says only 350 automatics were put behind the 6.2's made that year. My son has an 83Z with the 5 liter HO engine with the 700R4 auto. Everyone says none were made that year. Too may folks turn opinion, or something they heard into facts.

If anyone claims to have a stock 350 with a standard transmission, I would LOVE to see the eprom, as I am not aware of ANY GM eprom for any F-body 350 with a manual transmission. That is one of the most commonly requested mods on the PROM board..because you can't buy one for an F-body from a GM dealer...and the Vette eprom will trigger an SES code because the F-body ecm does not have an oil sensor for the ecm.
If anyone has a STOCK 350 5-speed car, I would like to see the build sheet, a reproduction from PHS or a picture of the SPI sticker. No one has EVER shown documented proof, inspite of owing a "stock L98 5-speed car"...they almost always turn out to be a 305 with a swapped 350 or an auto swapped for a manual.
If you got one, then you have a very rare and unique animal.
PS: Yes, some of the 1992 Firehawks DID have the 6-speed. They are the only exception.
I'm with Madmax on this one. Max knows all about burning eproms and he knows what I am saying.
If anyone has ANY DOUBTS, go down to your local GM dealer and ask for a L98 eprom for a 5-speed car and send me a copy of BIN. I already know the answer, and so does Max.

Re: Did the 350 ever come with a manual transmission?
Everyone has a stock 350 with a T5 until they discover the car they bought with a 350 is actually a 305.
As mentioned above, build sheets, RPO sticker or any other documented proof that the car left the factory with a 5.7L and a T5 is the only way to say it was original.
Until that happens, if they have a 350/T5, they're not factory production cars.

But my '87 has a 350 with a T5! It's a real early 5.7 vortec that happened to be a 5.3 for a while too...
If one of these unicorns did exist you would think it would have shown up in the last 24 years since our cars were last produced.

To quote Han Solo "What an incredible smell you've discovered!"
No 350 5-speeds. As has been said before, the t-5's weren't rated for the torque. With all the parts available I'm positive someone could do a swap and make it "look factory" but it's not.
