oil pressure
oil pressure
On my 91Z28 with 350 TPI, the oil gauge has gone to 0. The engine doesn't cut out or anything, but I figured I would change the oil pressure sending unit right above the oil filter just to be sure. Is there a back up oil pressure unit? I thought the fuel gets cut once the pressure goes to 0. It could also be my gauge, but I really hope not.
TIA.

The fuel pump is supposed to be cut off if you have no oil pressure. Oil pressure is monitored by two sensors. One is a switch that controls the fuel pump circuit(closes at like 6psi so you have at least that much oil pressure). The other uses pressure sensor to get an exact reading. Check for power on both sides of the sensor. You should lose some voltage across the sensor. If theres no power there you have a wiring problem.

The faulty switch caused this baby's head to fill up with oil and expand at an alarming rate, hence the upper temperal lobe swelling. Here is another pic of the baby taken only a few minutes later.

funny thing happened in my camaro: the needle of the pressure gauge got stuck at behind the dash plate, so it always read as zero.
I suggest getting a master gauge (on tool loan or whatever) and verify your oil pressue, then you could probably isolate faulty gauges and sensors.
