I know I know...another break in questionarre
Hey all
I have searched and read all of the break in procedure posts on here. Why oh why are there so many different ways?
A local mechanic I know who races says this is the start up break in procedure for my type of setup (flat tappet hydraulic camshaft)
1. 30wt oil, start up get it to above 1500 RPM as fast as possible, and rev it between 1500-2400 RPM slowly for about a 20 mins to a half hour.
2. Take it out with the same oil in it for about a half hour. ( I think thats what he said )
3. Change oil and filter, take out again and run it, do some mild accelerations to about 5000 RPM a few times.
4. Same, but do it with a bit faster acceleration a few times.
5. go drive for an hour or so.
6. cme back and change it again.
7. take it out, and take care of it, but do a few more mild and harder accelerations.
Then there are others who say baby it?
I just want this engine to last me a VERY long time. It's so pretty and will sound good and I don't want anything on it to break, so I am trying to figure out the absolute best way to do things here.
thanks so much eeveryone, I know your all tired of hearing these break in thingies
cheers ya'll!

Fill with 30 wt mineral base (regular dead dino oil) oil. Start the engine, keep RPM's between 1500 & 2000 for 20-30 minutes. Change oil and filter. Drive the car for 500 miles at varying RPM's but keep them below 5000. Change oil and filter again and you're set.

SSC does
But what do I know, my race engines last more then one season.
ok i've saw one person say to baby a engine. what exactily is it you do or don't do? my guess is liek a lot of other things related to cars 2 or more differant approaches will work and give the same end results. not sure if lasting more than one season is good or bad. i've had race engines last one nite week after week but it was expected and they did give good service and make good power, for one nite. rebuild and race again next week end.

They came set from the guys that built it. I just put the block in and put a carb on it and hooked stuff up.
