White smoke on startup and idle?
Hey, done lots of searches and now just kinda getting a better feel. It's an 87 GTA, and on startup it'll smoke out the exhaust (not too much) or if it's idled for a few minutes. Also if it's started to idle and I give it gas (ie in N or P). There's appears to be no coolant leak, and the oil looks ok. Will an oil analysis be worth it? What could the possibilities be? I would assume possible valve seals, head gasket, anything else? Thanks guys!!!

Why don't you guys do a bloody compression and leakdown test for cripes sakes! I wish I had the energy you boys do! Ifin' you feel the need to do some head gaskets I have about three booked for april, come on down and I'll be glad to oblige!

Or it could just be that it is cold outside and there is moisture in the exhaust. Do you have cats?? If not it may not ever completely go away in the cold weather.

whiyte smoke
I have got an '86 TA, and a '89 TA GTA. Both of them blew white smoke out the back, after I had sprayed Throttle-body cleaner down the
throttle, and into the plenum. They both smoked worse at start-up. On my GTA, I sprayed down 3 cans, and it blew out so much white smoke, that some lady called the fire department. It was kind-a dark, and she never saw no white car smoke before. I live in an apartment complex, and It totally saturated the air.
The GTA blew white smoke for quite awhile, Now both cars are fine.

These engines are notorious for valve seals going bad. Its a tough job replacing but not that bad if you have the right tools. Cost is cheap, 16 valve seals and a couple of valve cover gaskets. If you do the compression check and that is OK, suspect the seals. I did mine a few years ago and haven't had smoke on startup ever since.
