How do you check the ign module

I was just reading another post, and they mentioned the module could be preventing his car from reving high. I didn't know the module could work, just not well. I was under the impression the module either worked or was dead. Well, how do you tell if it is ok, although it works?

Most parts stores can run a test on the ignition module. However the test is not a 100% accurate. I had a module tested on two seperate days and it tested good both times. So I replaced the module anyway and the car was fine after that.
