intake and exhaust ports on heads, intake mainifold, cam, and on older ls1s, the ls6 block has slight differences to improve air circulation in the crankcase. A lot of newer ls1 cars have this block.

The LS6 heads also have a better configured combustion chamber. If you look at a pic of the two you can see the minor differences.

Main differences in the two though are the cams, the intake manifolds. The 2001+ LS1 motors had LS6 intakes though... Like already said they have differences in the blocks too to help w/ crankcase circulation...

So if they are the same size couldn't you fit an LS6 into an F-body if you can fit an LS1?

Exactly!! Same motor except for the internals, programming, & intake manifold, just like how everyone said above

GMMG actually did just that. Put LS6 motors in F-bodies... They called it the ZL1 Camaro... They also put C5R 427s in and labeled them Berger SSs and such...

I thought it was the other way around, with the 427s in the ZL1s, and hopped up 375HP ls1s in the SS (that's what it was in 2000, a hopped up ls1)

I was slightly wrong in my last post. There are 3 phases of ZL1 GMMG car. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are LS6 motors, and the Phase 3 ZL1 had a C5R 427.

Of the 69 ZL1s released I believe that 34 are 427 cars.
