Everyone with an aftermarket cam, a few tech questions...
I was just wondering what cams in what engines and with what mods everyone is running? And also how did the cam perform in your car when you first put it in? Thanks.

My 383 had a Crane CC-290A and was driven on the street when I bought it. Too bad the previous owner didn't have higher compression and a higher stall converter. When I bumped them both up I picked up 2 full seconds. Went from 14.0 to 12.0
The big block has the biggest Xtream Energy cam available, XE294H and it might not be enough.
My brake and gas pedels are also still in the stock location but I may be moving them back so I can move the seat back to transfer a little wieght to the rear.

383 stroker (carbed) with double hump cast iron heads and pump gas
461 Big Block installed and ready for the 2001 racing season
Best results before the 383 blew up
Best ET on a time slip: 11.857 altitude corrected to 11.163
Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87 altitude corrected to 126.10
Altitude corrected rear wheel HP based on power to weight ratio: 476.5
Best 60 foot: 1.662
Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!

I screwed up alot but I'm learning!
I had a head gasket blow so I decided to get new heads AL and a new cam. So I bought the Edelbrock 6085 heads and TPIS ZZ9 cam. I didn't know about this web site then so I got these cause I had catalogs from them. I didn't know about AFR heads till months later and not to mention the other cams that are cheaper and just as good as the ZZ9 and an aftermarket intake would REALLY help.
Well I had problems after it was installed ... basically idle was real choppy. I reset the timing, TPS voltage and IAC, new plugs and wires and still real choppy.
I took it to the track this way and ran a 14.01 @ 97.? .
I found out in late Fall my ignition control module was bad and causing the rough idle. But it was too late to go to the track again so I'll wait till spring.
I have stock suspension still and a 2000 stall convertor with a rebuilt tranny and transgo shift kit installed. Headers, Edelbrock ... should have gotten SLP, and a custom dual exhaust but 2 1/4" pipes.
I wasted alot of money so read and learn by others mistakes or by their gains.
Good Luck!

I stuffed a Comp Cam 210/220 .533/.544
Things really woke up last week when I got the trans back with a 9.5" 2800 stall converter.
When I get these larger springs in,I might
just have an 11 second 305

Ede,
I'm like you - I left the pedals alone (well, new bushings for the levers) and rebuilt everything else. My brother is rebuilding the Muncie 21 for me this winter in exchange for me doing the bodywork on his daughters' car. So, other than lifting the body off the frame, EVERY system in the car is new except for the rear-end. That's what I'll break this year.
Ford toploader tranny = easy rebuild.
Muncie = not so easy, and special tool required too.
Ede, I love that line......"left the pedals alone....fixed everything else...."
It's going in my archives of hotrod truisms. Just think if cars came perfect except for the pedals.....then we could leave everything alone, and concentrate on just the footwell.
