tach problems

tach problems

i now have a 1990 camaro rs 3.1 when the car is ideling at like 1,000 the tach raeds 4,000 and when i give it some gas it goes past 6,000 the car runs fine but the tach thing is just a little problem i would like to fix . it you guys can help i would be greatfull thanks

Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: Raptor 700
just take off the dash, CAREFULLY pull out the needle for the tach. turn the ignition to the ACC position and position teh needle so that the current reading is 0. Fire up the car and see if that works. What i'm trying to say is that when you turn the ignition on but don't start the engine the tach should read 0, if not all you have to do is pull the needle out and put it in its proper place.
