Can someone please explain how an auto tranney works? I'm talking mainly the 700R4 since its whats in my car. What are all the parts of it, like the valve body, the clutch packs, ect. All that stuff and what it does. Thanks.

Your local library and bookstore should have something on automatic transmissions. Post the question on the Trans board on this site.

 

Besides checking out the Transmission & Drivetrain message board, find the Haynes GM Transmission Overhaul manual at your local parts store, or from http://www.haynes.com - it give a pic-by-pic teardown/rebuild of the 700r4 you have, and it also has an intro chapter that explains how all automatic trannies work.
