Aftermarket Electric Fan
Aftermarket Electric Fan
I have an 84 Z28 with a ZZ4, and I want to get rid of the power robbing flex fan I have and get an electric fan. Has anyone done before and if so did you go with one fan or two?...pusher or puller or both? How did you mount it? Pictures would be great.
Thanks - Joe
Thanks - Joe
I think it is just pushers unless you have a/c then it is pusher/puller. I have looked into this before but decided to pull the assembly off of a later model Firebird at the junkyard. Takes a lot of guesswork out and is cheaper than new.

Thanks Steve...I was thinking about that.
I don't have A/C...I'm thinking I still want to go with an aftermarket unit if I can..otherwise I'm taking a trip to the junkyard like Steve

The best electric fans are made by Spal. The fans made by PermaCool and Flexalite are rated in free air, and when installed behind a radiator do not perform as rated.

Best performers are GM factory large diameter single electric fans like the ones on 85-86 Irocz. Fans are much more efficient in the pulling mode behind the radiator. Be sure to get the large airdam from the newer Irocz as well.

Spal makes the best electric fans on the market. www.spal-usa.com
The puller set up is much more efficient.

Anyone happen to know off hand what they charge as a general rule for the Spal fans, just a common size like 12" or 16" ers?
Don't see any prices on their site, but most aftermarket fan setups I've seen have been pretty darn high for a broke bum like myself. I think my stock dual fans are about dead so I'll need to do something before spring...

I don't know what a single fan costs, but I have been using the Spal High Performance Dual 11" fans with integrated shrouds. They cost me $259, but they will keep the coolant temp at any temperature I set them to come on at, no matter the ambient temp or driving conditions.
