You will get better answers and opinons here. I would try a search first though. This topic comes up quite a bit.

I don't mind answering this question. Since everyone always sends you to the search button on this site. I personally like the March Pulleys. I have used the V Belt ones and the Serpentine ones and both work great. The quality is great. No problems with the alternator either.

The whole point here is that this is a message board and not a reference library. It's not that hard to answer his question. All he's asking is other peoples experience and what they suggest. If he wanted info on what pulleys would fit his engine he could just look on Jegs or Summit.

camaro88sc,

Don't know where you are from, but if you are in a hotter climate, be sure not to slow down the water pump too much.

As long as you aren't running a mechanical fan you should not have a problem with overheating unless you get an overly small crank pulley.

so with underdrives...you want a the smallest ALT pulley you can get?
THe one that came with my set was bigger......the stock ALT size is 2" 3/8ths and the one I got was 2" 7/8s...I put the stock one back on cause the diode switch in the ALT went bad, I dotn know the pulley caused that or not...but it seems to be charging fine with the stock one back on it...

I left the stock pulley on my alternator because I just never got around to changing it because the bolt is frozen on. They are both the same diameter, so I never bothered trying again.

With a bigger pulley, the accessory will be driven slower..

The reason why the alt. pulley is larger is because its actually an overdrive pulley.

When you buy an underdrive pulley set like crank, water pump, and alternator, the alt pulley will be bigger to prevent charging problems. It compensates for having the other stuff underdriven.

I personally like ASP pullys

If you are a fully powered option car, large radio system, I personally dont recommend the alt pully.

I live fairly far in the south, and do not have overheating problems. I have put them on every ride I have owned in the past 6 years.

Whoever cant get the alt pully off, use an impact while the alt and belt are still attached to the car, then remove belt, then pully, put pully back on as tight as your fingers allow, then belt, then impact.

i'd go with the march crank pulley. dont worry about the alt pulley... i dont think it's worth it for only about 1-2 hp

will it screw up my alt if I put the big pulley back on? or should I order the 2 "1/8 polished one from March? I just want all my pullies to look the same.

Putting the bigger pulley on your alternator should save it some work.

You can run the bigger pulley. If you have a bad a$$ sound system the pulls a lot of current you may have some issues with the battery not getting a good charge.

Just bought the ASP crank pulley and corresponding belt to fit. Just wondering if there is a set amount of torque that needs to be applied to tighten the new pulley back up. Or is it just tighten till you can't anymore?

How much gain to get from the pulley sets? Is it noticable? I've looked at them, but don't know anyone that is running them.
