Non tech but the man is a legend - for those of you who haven't heard I'm sorry to bear the tidings but Dale Earnhardt died today on the last lap of the Daytona 500 after colliding with the wall at 190 mph. So I'm bummed - hopefully some other bowtie guys can step up and "intimidate" in the future.

I do actually have a tech question: is there ANY way by force or creativity to remove the piston nut from a strut w/o a spring compressor? Do I need to save and reinstall the stock piston shield? Thanks for replies.
