Cast Iron or Aluminum Heads

Question for you guys, I have a 1982 Camaro and going to build a 500hp 383 engine. I would like to go with aluminum heads for weigt, cooling and power but if the engine overheats once your screwed do to warping. So i was thinking cast iron which cast iron head should i use to make good power and flow for a 500hp 383. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Justin

cast iron warps too if you over heat the engine. i don't think i'd limit my options on something yuo shouldn't allow to happen any way. also a warped head is repairable.

I agree, as long as you've managed your cooling system,
you shouldn't have that hanging over your head.
As far as head choices I went aluminum over cast iron.
Needed that lightweight for intentional racing purposes, but cast iron heads also have advantages over aluminum so...
It's basically a matter of YOUR choice.DUECE

My car has only overheated once due to a thrown belt, since then I switched to a March Pulley system, cast iron headers and had a custom aluminum radiator with large fans installed and has never overheated since came close once driving in the woodward dream cruise. Which heads should I use on a 383 500hp engine, that will be used for the stip and used as my toy on the weekend.

Thanks,

Justin

Sanderson makes the cast iron headers they dont burn off a ton of heat like tube style headers www.sandersonheaders.coms. I was referring to heads though. I was thinking AFR 195's or Pro Topline Lighting 23 degree. Gonna be used on a 383 500hp engine. Looking for ideas.

Thanks,

Justin
