Overcharged Battery possible ???
I noticed tonight that my dash lights were strong as ever, when I looked at my battery gauge, I noticed that it was in the red for a few seconds...then it dropped and went very close to red again. So I turned on everything. Stereo, lights, rear defogger, wipers....etc and it went down. I just changed my altenator again about 2 weeks ago, and well.....the battery has been dead now 4-5 times over the past 2 years. I never replaced it and well...could this be the problem or wrong alt.
Thanks people.

what do you drive?
You could have a bad battery or voltage regulator.

Well the voltage regulator is built into the alternator, and since its new, chances are its good. My guess would be that your battery is messed up. Usually after you run them dead a couple of times, they wont hold a charge anymore, or they may work funny like yours is. I would get autozone to test your battery and go from there.

I drive a 92' Heritgae edtn. RS Camaro with ughhhh...a ...a...V6
I wish I had a v8 in it. oh well......the next one.
And like I said the alt. was installed just about 2 weeks ago. So maybe, it might be the stupid battery.....I will take it to the local store and have them check it out. Thanks guys.

Don't trust Auto-Zone to test a battery.
He is right about killing batteries. Once you really kill them and coat the plates they are never the same and can act flakey. Just try another battery to see if the problem goes away. If so then buy a new battery.

Hey guys, what's up. Just to let everyone know it actually turned out to be my freakin altenator again. The good thing is I did not have to pay for another one. They replaced it for free..whew !!!
On the way home the battery went basically dead again and I power braked the car home to smell rubber burning. The back of the main power to the alt. caught a small fire and the wires and bolts fused togther...nice huh !! I ended up replacing the metal connection and wire to the back of the alt. and heat shrinking the plastic round the wire to prevent corrosion. It better not catch fire again. Thanks for all your input and I bought a new battery
I had it tested and it was in battery heavan. Later guys.
