TBI fire!!!!

Check out this post if you do not know my prevous problems, https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/005848.html

Well today after I put my battery back in and redoing a posssible bad ground. I went to start the engine and everything was working fine (sounded fine) but no gas was going to the throttle body. My friend sparyed some "gas in a can" kind of stuff into the throttle body to get it going while I started the car. It would start, but fizzle out after a few secends. On the third or fourth try the throttle body caught fire. I was able to put the fire out relativly easy. It does not look like anything is screwed up on the TB. I tried using some spray to clean the injectors. The parts I could see it cleaned it greatly. What can I do to remedy this? And what is causing it? I thought it could be either the fuel pump is bad or is not getting any power. As earlier any help would be greatly appreciated.

BTW I replaced the fuel filter 2 months ago and never let the gas tank get below 1/4 full. Also do any of the Denver locals know any quality shops as I feel this is getting out of my hads, being a 17 yr. old w/o much experience.

Listen for the pump to prime when you turn on the ignotion, but don't start it. If you hear it prime, chances are your pump is ok. It could be the fuse or relay also. There is also supposed to be a signal coming from your distributor telling the injectors to fire. This may not be happening. Unfortunately, I don't know how to fix that problem

If you can't see the injectors spraying then there is something wrong with the fuel delivery. Either pump isn't working, fuel filter is dirty, AFPR is stuck or tightened so much that no fuel goes through, or you have a crimp in a line. If fuel is spraying then it's spark, if you tell your friend to stand behind the car and look into the exhaust tip he'll be crying for a good while . Spark problems can be something really easy or something really FUBAR.

Not sure about this but could you have damaged the injectors by shorting them out or something like that?

i wouldn't think that a clogged fuel filter would completely restrict fuel flow..

check your car to see if it primes correctly, it'll sound like a hum in the back of the car.. if you aren't getting gas beyond there i would yank the fuel injectors and take them to a shop and see what the deal is..

Check the two plugs on your coil - not the wire that goes to your dist cap, the other two smaller plugs on front. Took me two weeks to find that that was my problem. After replacing the fuel pump. And the injectors. And installing a external regulator. Just something to check.

Well, I have an '89 Rs Camaro with a 305 TBI. Last year my car broke down and had the same problem. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, checked all fuses and they were ok. I was also told to see if the lines were clogged. Could also be bad injectors. But on my car it was something unexpected. It was a combination of my computer chip, and some bad wiring on the injectors. I dont know how this had happend, and how these had broke at the same time. But I finally gave up and took it to a dealer. It costed about 500 bucks and took about a month to diagnose.

I'm having the exact same problem as you are right now. I got a rebuild kit for my tbi, (at the same time did the ultimate tbi mods) but that didn't help. I also checked all my fuses (including the fuel pump fuse under the hood). At the beginning of the problem, i could still hear the fuel pump come on when i turned the key, now its not coming on at all and not spraying any fuel at all. So I ordered a 190 ltr/hr aftermarker pump as a replacement and waiting for it to get here. This will be my spring break project and i hope this will be it.
