Well, there's the "ignition control module", which is located in the distributor.

There's the "knock sensor module", which is located on the firewall.

There's the "engine control module", which is located above the passenger footwell.

All combine to provide the "electronic spark timing".

Unplug the 4-plug connector on the distributor to disable the advance. Set your timing to specs, plug back in and your done.

nooope

i dont know if that would work or not, but thats NOT the factory designed way to do it.

twistydick:

look on the passenger side fender... there should be a single wire connector with a tan wire going thru it. its a single wire weatherpack connector.... usually towards the back of the fenderwell, but on the fender, just bearly sticking out of the wire harness tubing cover..

unplug it... this disables the advance.

set the timing, then plug it back in and you're set.

Well, dont know if the '85 uses a different distributor than mine, mines an '87, but for mine the under-hood directions clearly state that that is how its done.

The factory way to do the advance on a computer carb is to disconnect the 4 pin connector. There is no single plug like the TPI and TBI use. Why the carb doesn't need a RPM signal for the motor to run the injection does.

On a 85 car, large-cap HEI, the 4-prong Weatherpak connector is in fact the one you disconnect. Look for it hanging down between the bell housing and the trans tunnel. It exits the distributor at the rear of the housing, about directly opposite the 3-prong primary connector that goes up to the cap.

Thought so. I know my brother's '85 TPI and his old '89 TBI had the single wire connector, but mine uses the 4-pin connnector on the dist, as I'd assume does his '85 LG4.

Always helps to ask the question you really need answered...

Yes, disconnect the flat 4-wire plug from the distributor to the wiring harness. Sometimes it's hard to find because it likes to "hide" amoungst all the occupants of that space.

CCC is a wonderful system. To know it is to love it.

(And, no, I don't have my tongue firmly implanted in my cheek...)
