Cant pass inspection because my wheel shacks

i just got back from inspection and I failed because the steering wheel moves up and down, like a half inch. I havent taken it apart yet, Im wondering if anyone has ever had this problem and how they fixed it

I'll bet this was inspected by the guy who swears that "**** retentive" is spelled with the hyphen...

Mine did the same thing, except One or Two inches graduated to Two or Three, THen To Off in My Hands.

1989CamaroRs sounds like the tilt part of the column is loose. To fix this you will have to take the column apart. There are four bolts the connect the tilt to the shaft, these bolts are loose. I fixed mine by taking the bolts loose one at a time, then cleaning them, then applied some lock tight to them.

I had the same problem. I had to buy a set of female torx bits and two special tools. A steering wheel puller and a lock plate remover. Working on the steering wheel is a PIA..
