Distributor still has lots of play when on motor..
hi
The crate motor i ordered came in yesterday. When i put the intake and distributor on, I could still get about 1/4" of side to side movement at the top of the distributor. This was without the clamp on. Does this still sound normal? Sorry if im being a pain in the ***, its my first motor swap and i want to make sure i am doing everything right...
thanks again,
nick

When the distributor is fully inserted into the block, there should be no movement from side to side. The hole in the block that guides the distributor to the cam gear would prevent it.

It is normal.
The 2 oil passage bosses at the bottom of the dist housing are all that fits into the block, but it's a somewhat loose fit. That's all that's trying to hold it still besides the intake, which doesn't fit tight to it at all (in order to allow for the considerable tolerance in the final location of the intake after it's installed).
Bolt it down and don't worry about it.
