Finally got my car running with LT4 HOT Cam, WOW!!!!!!!!!
I finally got my car running and I took it out for the first time, and HOLY COW, the swap was well worth all the money I spent. I do agree that the car does need more intake and better heads, but its okay for now, I have my new rear end comming in this summer. The runs like hell from 3000 RPM up and the idle isn't all that bad, its noticeable, but not bad at all.

Awesome, that idle sounds neat. Did you notice any lose of low-end torque, or should I say How much did you notice, because I know you lost some Lowend with that cam.

Cool, I like to hear about success stories for a change!
BTW- why are you dumping the 9-bolt for a 10- bolt?

Yes, I lost some low end power, nothing that is making me regret the swap, but there was some lost down low. I won't have a chance to take it down to Bandimere Speedway for about another month, but when I do I will post my time slips both before and after the cam change. The car has insane power from 3000+. I am getting rid of my 2.77 9 bolt because I am having a friend's dad built me a 10 bolt with 3.42s, all I have to buy is the ring and pinion set and the drum brakes. He's setting up the rear end (the 16th of his life) and is going to help me install it all at cost so thats good. I'm hoping with the new cam and new gears I will be running mid 14s up here (mid 13s at sea level).

I have the LT4 Hot Cam and it has so much torque it's almost hard to shift into first gear!! Don't worry about low end torque.. oh yea I have SLP 1 3/4 headers.

Nice to hear that ya finally got it running, AND that it was worth the money. Seems like alot now days you don't hear a whole lot of people say it was worth their money.
Now ya'll got me wanting a bigger cam, hehe. Think i'll wait till i get the engine out this summer.

Dan,
I went to a Comp profile that has a little more lift/duration than the LT4 "Hot" and noticed the same thing. The low end fell off a bit, but not badly. This might have been more due to the larger valves and head porting on mine than the cam profile. When I get around to the converter swap, the difference at low end won't matter, since low end won't exist any more. Your rear gearing should have a similar effect. Hold on to the reins.
But you're right - the difference from about 2,600 RPM on to ??? is worth any minor loss at low end. Like the little pink bunny, it keeps going, and going...

I so wish I had the money now for new heads and/or a new intake parts. I am flat broke now and this new rear end is going to cost me about $350, which is still a bargin. Are there any mods I can do that are cheap that I haven't done yet that can help my car be faster with this new cam?
