Oil on spark plug
Hi i have oil on one of the sparkplugs and at full throttle you can see some blue smoke.
What could be wrong?
Could it just be a bad valve seal or worse the piston rings?
The odometer says 60000 miles so its not that much.
The engine doesnt seem to consume any or very little oil if you look at the oil stick.

Ahh you make it sound so easy, well i hope its not the piston rings. Have to look more before i decide what to do.

I have always put small diameter nylon rope into the cylinder, then turned the engine over by hand until the rope is compressed upon the valves. This way, the valve CANNOT drop under any circumstances.

Ive done the method lonestar states. It works fine. Its just time consuming. But it works all the same. Then just go in with a stud-mounted valve spring compressor. Compress the springs/retainers. Get a magnet to collect the locks. Pop the springs off and have at the seals.

If its blowing blue smoke at WOT, and oil on the plugs, its possibly the rings. Seals are a possibility though. Does it smoke at startup?? Or just at WOT?

If thats the case, chances are good the its the rings. If the seals were bad, you would have startup smoke.

I had that problem once and tore the engine down only to find the ring gaps were aligned. Every time I put a new plug in that cyl. it would only last about 50 or 75 mi. before it fouled out.
I repositioned the gaps and re-assembled it and wala! it worked! My uncle (a pro mech) said I could have tried squirting a few shots of diesel or rislone in the cyl., removed the coil wire and cranked it over for a bit and It would have caused the rings to move on the piston. I would take a compression test on the cyl. thats giving you problems and the one or two next to it and compare them. That will tell you if you have broken or aligned rings, or a bad valve seal. Ring problem will show lower pressure,
valve seal won't.

Ok, she used to smoke on startup but then i fixed my egr problem and she stopped smoki.ng , instead i got blue smoke at full throttle. The idle is smooth and perfect so theres not any real signs of serious engine damage.
