You have the TBI engine rated at 170 HP. Go to the TBI forum and read all about it.

Its not a bad little motor so if people put it down, don't worry about it. Everything is a trade off. As long as you do basic maintance the motor will last for 200k+ miles. Great milage. May I just say the best thing you can do off the bat is the 14X3 open element. There is some stuff in the tech fourm about it. If you have question beyond that please feel free to e-mail me.

The first choke point in that motor is the eshaust, from the heads to the street. A set of headers, a cat, and a cat-back will help it out. You won't notice a huge difference but that is the necessary first step. DON'T get the one listed for your car; do it all at once, and get the one for a 350 TPI. As a whole assembly it will bolt right up and you'll lose the weenie little Y-pipe that is one of the slimmest bttlenecks in the whole system.
The next thing is the cam. You have the puniest cam imaginable (bad) but you also have the roller system (good) so a good cam for you is the Comp 264HR.
COMPETITION CAMS CAMSHAFT SPECIFICATION SHEET

.006 TAPPET LIFT 264 274

EXH 46 BBDC 6-ATDC
THESE SPECS ARE FOR CAM INSTALLED

LOBE LIFT .3200 .3200

THIS CAM SHOULD USE SPRING # 981-16
Those 2 things will make an incredible difference in that car: probably 50-60 HP.
For starters, do all the regular maintenance, like spark plugs, cap & rotor, oil change with synthetic, rear end lube change with synthetic, cooling system service, etc. The synthetic fluids are worth measurable HP and gas mileage from reduced friction, plus they will help it live as long as possible. Once you get past the exhaust and cam your next restriction will be the heads which are major $$$ to improve. At that point it's worth looking into some other motor. The other things can be used with a TPI motor, even a 350 if you go that way.

RB got it on the money
full exhaust, for a 350 tpi gave me .5 in the quarter mile (before and after Gtech, fairly consistent) youll definately feel it
aircleaner mod is great too
basically anything that involves breathing on the tbi motor needs to be changed

Wow, exhaust and cam, 50-60 hp. I will deffinitely be looking more into that. I am a dumbass when it comes to engine related stuff, but I am learning. I think a good PROM would help balance the new power of the cam / exhaust, and probabally increase your HP a little more. Just a thought..
